It was a bitch getting here…

Post series: The not so glamorous side of travel.

Kicked off a bus, bar Montenegro

Once upon a time Lil Nicki and Sally graduated from university. They decided to treat themselves after the torment of dental hygiene school and went backpacking in Europe.

About halfway through the trip we got on a bus leaving from Pristina, Kosovo over to Podgorica, Montenegro.

I will write a post later in this series about the death bus ride that ensued between the two countries.

We plopped down on the bus. Chatted with the driver and his homeboy… Co-pilot? Not sure exactly what he was, but they were friendly enough.

Homeboy asked where we were headed to and I said Bar. (Our plan was to get on a bus in the morning from Bar to Budva, where we’d explore for a week… Or so).

He said, oh this bus continues onto Bar from Podgorica. We said great, we’ll stay until Bar then, and gave him the additional couple Euros to continue. I asked where in Bar it dropped us. He said “bus station”.

Perf! Right where we needed to be dropped off .

Not so much…

At 2:30am we stopped in the middle of a town. The co-pilot came over and said ok we here. Dis is Bar.

We were a little confused. “Aren’t we going to the bus station?”

“Dis is Bar.”

But….

“DIS IS BAR!!”

“You leave now!”

When we tried to ask directions they acted like they couldn’t understand us at all. Then tossed our backpacks off and sped away.

Great… 2:30 am and I have no idea where the fuck we are.

I turn on my phone at this point, just in case things get real weird.

To about 27 text messages from my then psycho boyfriend demanding to know who Timothy Cline is and why he posted on my Facebook wall.

I don’t know! I don’t know who that even is!! Got bigger problems to deal with!

By now we now have a crowd of stray dogs following us, Sally’s freaking out. Knowing Sally she probly had 15 pounds of snacks in her back pack, and that’s why we had a flock of dogs in tow.

Aha! A hotel.

We walk into the lobby, the door guy chases off the dogs.

We tell the reception our debacle. She said that they were full but there is a taxi who usually sits in their parking lot and to wait there and he could take us to Bar for 20€.

At this point we didn’t care two fucks about money or cost. We got in the cab and sped off down the coast to Budva.

He took us straight to our hostel, where we had to wake up poor Saki in the middle of the night to check in far earlier than planned. He was nice enough to upgrade us to our own room.

Finally the next afternoon when we finally woke up I got on the wifi to see what that Facebook dilemma.

Some guy that I’m not sure if I even knew sent me a cow on Farmville.

That’s what his crazy ass (the ex-bf) was having a shit-fit over halfway around the globe. A God-damn cow on a game that I probly played 4 times 3 years prior.

PS if you’re interested in staying at Saki’s (he runs a great apartment/hostel) visit his site here.

My friend was definitely freaking out, I was freaking out in the inside but looked totally normal on the outside (my friends question what’s wrong with me all the time haha). It’s one of those things that you thought it was the worst night ever when it was happening but I think it’s funny now. Plus it gave me a story!

Thanks Rachel, I think this is the 5th post so far of the series. I’m trying to round up all my stories on the not so wonderful times while traveling.

What an adventure. Glad you made it to the hostel safely. I can image freaking about where the hell you are, or about the situation you are in, and having someone giving you a hard time about something that is so unimportant at that moment. It’s usually my mom doing it to me, lol. Asking me if we made it there yet, etc when I am in the middle of checking into the hotel, trying to get directions after getting lost, etc. It’s like “give me 5 mins mom”. But of course she doesn’t, lol She’ll just keep texting and texting. Oh well, she cares, right? lol Thanks for sharing your story and for reminding me that things don’t always go as planned and it doesn’t just happen to me.

      Thanks Sam,

I don’t think my entire life has gone as planned… Well I don’t think there ever was a plan haha!
