Anchorage in a Weekend
A two day itinerary.
Day 1
Have breakfast over at Bear’s Tooth Grill. My favorite is the Cotija tacos.
Head downtown and spend a couple hours over at the Anchorage Museum. First floor has the imaginarium to keep the kids occupied. The second floor has all kinds of Alaska native artifacts and displays. The third floor usually has another attraction.
Make your way over to the Anchorage market (if it’s summer) and have a look around and grab a quick snack from one of the many local food vendors. If it’s winter and the weathers bad you can scratch the Anchorage market and breakfast at Bear’s Tooth and head to Bear’s Tooth in the afternoon a $3.50 movie and order some food there, they’ll bring it to you in the theater.
From there get on bikes or walk from the coastal trail downtown to Kincaid Park. Spend the remainder of the afternoon at the park, with great access to beaches, trails and more. Both the Coastal Trail and Kincaid Park are doable in the winter!
After a quick change, head back downtown and pick from one of the many restaurants for dinner.
After dinner you can continue on your night and hop around all the downtown bars.
Day 2
Make your way over to Snowcity Cafe for an early breakfast.
Head down the Seward Highway for some scenic views and then spend a little time exploring the town of Girdwood and have lunch at one of it’s restaurants.
Upon returning to Anchorage go over to the Alaska Zoo to see some of Alaska’s animals.
After the zoo make your way up to Flattop, spend the late afternoon making the 1.5 mile trek up to the top and enjoy some panoramic views of the city from there.
After the hike up the mountain you will probly be hungry. Time to head over to one of the best pizza places in the country, Moose’s Tooth. If you can stand to wait for a table (no reservations) head to the restaurant, if not call and order some pizza and then pick it up along with a growler and bring it back to your room.
If you still aren’t exhausted from the day, make your way downtown to some of Anchorage’s wine bars, Crush, Whale’s Tail or the champagne bar: The Bubbly Mermaid.
What are some other ideas for how to do Anchorage in a weekend?
