My 5oth Blog Post
I saw on my dashboard thingy here on WordPress that I have made 49 posts. So I figured I’d start showboating about this being my 50th blog post.
So for my 50th post I’m gonna tell you some cool things that have happened with my blog, and then I’m gonna piss and moan about social media.
I started this in February 2015, wrote a couple of things in February and March. Wrote about my trip to Japan and Thailand in April and May. Then didn’t really write much in May or June, and then picked back up in July.
I have 4 followers on WordPress…
That aren’t related to me and I hope they enjoy enduring what I have to say. I hope one day more people follow me and care about my ridiculous stories. Hopefully it makes people laugh. But if doesn’t, oh well. At least I can go back and laugh at my own stories.
I have about 110 or so followers on Facebook.
I think they mostly like posts (and by mostly, I mean my Mom, my cousin, cousin-in-law and maybe an additional human or two) but few people click the link to go read them.
I have 670 Twitter followers.
I don’t really understand Twitter but apperently people like me or some shit on there because let’s face it, I don’t think their are 670 people IRL aware of my existence. I’ve had the opportunity to be interviewed on Anti Travel Guides because the site owner Luke read some things I wrote and had linked to Twitter and liked it. I also was reviewed and featured by Live Travel & Blog who found me via Twitter because they said I was a breath of fresh air. I thought both were exciting. I posted a link to their blog on my FB page. My best friend just commented an elephant farting with emojis on my FB referencing me being a breath of fresh air. Thanks for making sure I don’t float off into space by keeping me down to Earth, Tay.
I do not understand the whole Twitter follow/unfollow thing. Don’t fucking follow me in the first place if you’re just gonna unfollow as soon as I peruse your Twitter, think you have things of use to say and follow you. Go fuck yourself. I hope you feel good about yourself with your account making you look like the popular kid that likes no one. You god damn narcissist dick hole. You’re probly lonely IRL anyways with an attitude like that. (Please laugh at the irony there with the amount of name calling and profanities I just used in that paragraph).
I made a Pinterest.
People follow me and repin things I pin. I don’t really love it but whatever. My view of Pinterest is deluded women making wedding boards and unrealistic craft project ideas.
I love Instagram.
Some people like me on there. I don’t really care if people follow me or not. I just like the fact that I can sift through amazing, beautiful, hilarious and inspiring photos and unlike Facebook have to read about people’s shitty lives that they love to bitch about to no end and mediocre accomplishments. Sorry if I sound like a dickhead, but it’s the #truth.
I have a Google+.
I hate it. No one follows me on there and I don’t even use it. I think it’s dumb.
I’m gonna go circle back to my Twitter bitching again now.
It’s a god damn circle jerk a lot of the time. It’s a lot of if I like you, you should like me stuff. I do however like how easy it is to meet and interact with other bloggers.
Recently I received a message from a travel blogger that annoyed the fuck outta me. It really just showed how much they only care about their self promotion and numbers.
I am legitimately grateful when people follow me, like my writing, feature me and interact. Normally I write each new follower I get a thank you message saying thanks for following, if you’d like to check out my blog here’s the site, if you’d like to check out FB here’s a link. (Sometimes I’m lazy and copy/paste it to new followers, but I don’t use that automated DM garbage, I hate those.) From there do what you want with it. I don’t give a fuck. Like me. Hate me. Ignore me. Look. Don’t look. Throw it in the garbage. Whatever.
So I receive a reply to one of these messages I sent out informing me that they liked my FB page, so I returned the favor by looking at their FB page and was like oh this is travel related, looked interesting so I liked the page. To be a nice god damn human being I replied by saying that I found their content interesting and had liked theirs as well. Then the not-to-be-named travel blogger proceeded to argue with me and say I was lying and didn’t like their page because they didn’t see it on there! I really did like the page! But really? You’re gonna sit there and call me liar? I even went back and checked to make sure that I did click like (I’m a fucking human who sometimes will error). I did like it! What the fuck more do you want from me?!?
Obviously you just care about followers fellow travel blogger. You really showed how petty you are.
But all pissing and moaning aside…
This travel blog thing has been interesting and mostly a good experience. And it’s cool when people call you to say they actually enjoy your writing.
I mostly wanted to do this to give people the chance to read about what I like to do.
And to help document things I did because I’m starting to forget details of what happened on past trips. I also enjoy encouraging people to go travel. If you don’t want to travel that fine, but if you do and you’re confused as to how, I’d like to convince you that it is possible.
I didn’t start this solely to try and quit my day job and make a living.
I mean, I wouldn’t mind if people wanted to pay me for my snarky input, but if it never happens it’s all good. This is why I don’t like to set too high of goals.
I’ve seen a lot of people set up goals
like; within two months I want to be profiting on my blog. Ok. Good luck with that. Maybe someone’s done it. I don’t expect to be turning a profit anytime soon, or ya know… ever.
I also joined Travel Blog Success.
I kinda thought that they must just be giving bloggers a fat affiliate pay out because a lot of them seem to recommend it. It actually has some helpful information on it to getting a blog up and going. I’m still playing around with it to determine how much I like it and to see if I think it helps. I’m still very new at all this. I’m kind of leery of posting things on the FB page though, I feel like a dingus cause I’m still trying to learn what the hell all this even is.
Well thanks for putting up with 50 posts of bullshit, yelling, obscenities, and general debauchery.

Congrats on your 50th post! I also don’t really understand Twitter, and haven’t touched Google+ because I have no idea where to even begin there. Just wanted to point out that I agree with a lot of what you said! Bloggers who beg for likes and follows I just don’t understand. If you want to grow a following, why not want people who are actually going to interact with you and like your posts? As much as travel blogging is becoming a good thing as it gets bigger I think some people get into it for the wrong reason and just see it as a cool thing to do. Best of luck in the blogging future, I’ll be sure to read more of your posts!
Thanks Taylor! Yeah I’ve given up on Google+, I think my posts automatically appear on it, but I don’t use it at all. I find Twitter to be a pain. I have a lot of followers, but I don’t get much interaction with them, but there are my handful on there that I do and they’re great! And I totally agree, I don’t want a follower just for a number, I want a follower that’s there because they like what I wrote, or my picture or whatever. I think blogging has been projected as this get rich quick scheme and really it’s not! Good luck to you too and I’ll be looking out for your blog posts
Congrats on your 50th blog post! Way to go!
It does often seem like bloggers are all about followers but don’t interact when you like them. I’m totally with you. I like more pages etc than I interact with but I always do if I see something that personally interests me, and have a few favourite blogs I read more regularly (like yours) it’s a tough world to try and ‘make it’ in, but if you write for yourself that doesn’t matter! Good on you and good luck!
Thanks Gemma, I’m actually coming up on 100 posts here soon! Crazy. I’m the same way I’ve followed quite a few pages and what not but its hard to keep track of everyone, I need more hours in a day! I hear of bloggers that say they read 100 other blogs regularly but keeping up my own blog + working full time is so much already, and most the time I’ve passed out in bed before I get around to reading others! However I do have my handful that I really do make an effort to read.
